Wayne Community Schools Foundation is committed to making the Kern Track and Field Complex the best of the best.
Hosting events such as the Wayne Elementary Fun Run, High School Conference Track meets, Junior High and Junior Varsity Football games, as well as Relay for Life, the Kern Track and Field Complex engages numerous individuals within northeast Nebraska and beyond. Through your support, the Kern Track and Field Complex will continue to be a state-of-the-art facility used by our entire school district, our community, and our region. Having lights at the facility now allows the school district to schedule football games later so parents can be there at the start. The games used to begin at 4:00 p.m. to ensure they were finished before dark, forcing parents and spectators to leave work early if they wanted to be at the game in time for kick-off. Also, many times the Wayne High Track meets are not finished before the sun goes down; therefore, our last events were completed in the dark but this will no longer be an issue. Wayne’s marching band can also now practice earlier in the morning by using the lights instead of having to wait for enough sunlight to perform and can now host marching band competitions. Serving as host of Relay for Life, the school district had to rent stadium lights for the participants. These lights also give many of our community walkers the option of walking not only during the day, but also in the evenings as the lights are on a timer and can be used at night and in the morning before there is much light. The button to activate the lights is located next to the light pole by the north parking lot and runs for an hour once it is hit. Lights can come on as early as 6:00 am and can be used until 10:00 pm. A timer is set for the lights to shut off automatically after they have been on for an hour.
